Funny thing happened on my way to the market...
I decided to go motorcycle
road racing on a Triumph TT600!

C Superbike Novice (wild mods) I was gridded in wave 3, row 27 (of 28). I got
another crummy start (note to self, must take TT600 to drag strip for more
practice) and got boxed to the outside of turn one. This race was real fun
though. I felt comfortable and had a couple of good battles dicing some of the
lighter and more powerful '03/'04 model 600s in the race. I passed one guy in
the esses, setting up outside for the right-hander and stuffing him on the
inside when we flicked it over for the left hander. Another guy I out braked
into turn 5 out braked me back into 10 but that gave him a funky line and lost
all his drive. I got off the brakes and on the gas sooner carrying more corner
speed and drove by him on the exit onto the front straight and put ½ a bike
length on him but then he out reeled me back in, pulling even though 4th and
putting a bike length on me in 5th and another after shifting into 6th. He then
popped up to brake for turn 1 where I was braking on Saturday, but I found a few
extra feet and sailed by him, wide open, still in full tuck before I grabbed the
brakes and made the pass stick this time. On the final lap, I caught up to the
next guy in front of me in the back section and powered around him coming out of
9 and held him of on the drag race to the checkered. I turned my best time of
the weekend, dropping another second and a half from the 1st race on that last
lap, just as that rear tire was really starting to come in! I never imagined
finishing 34th (of the 44 after starting 40th) could be so much fun. My goal
this race was only not to finish DFL, so another personal victory! My best lap
was a 1.26 which felt smooth and controlled and I'm sure I could've knocked some
more time off as the race progressed and probably picked up 4 or 5 more spots.
